~ Tradition & Quality ~ ![]() *Celtic, "as in Celtic salt, and Celtic Sea refers to the ancient traditional sea salt harvesting methods developed by ancient celtic "paludiers" ( sea salt farmers). These organic celtic artisan methods of sea salt harvesting are still used today by traditional salt farmers in the Algarve in Portugal to produce high quality natural unrefined celtic traditional artisan sea salts. |
The unrefined Marisol creamy-white celtic traditional sea salt is of a creamy colour because of the hotter, drier climate, which allows an abundant harvest of high quality celtic salt: enabling the salt farmers to leave the bottom layer of salt behind, harvesting only the cleanest top layer of salt. Nothing added and nothing removed: just the way nature intended. Marisol sea salts are not harvested by machines but by "Marnotos" (Portuguese traditional celtic artisan sea salt farmers, aka "paludiers" ) using the same celtic methods of harvesting sea salt. These traditional celtic salt farmers produce these beautiful high quality salts: "the fruit of the ocean, sun & wind" for all to enjoy. Marisol sea salt is available in four forms: medium or fine moist sal tradicional (Portuguese for celtic traditional sea salt), and two exceptional surface sea salts: Flor de Sal (Portuguese for Fleur de Sel) and Flos Salis (Ancient Roman for Fleur de Sel) Marisol traditional artisan sea salts are certified by "Certiplanet" (European mark of exceptional quality and purity) to be 100% *natural (*no additives), hand-harvested by the ancient celtic methods of sea salt harvesting, processed by natural organic celtic methods of sea salt processing, unrefined, and free of pesticides, herbicides, and chemical residues. Marisol salts are also Kosher certified. All of our Portuguese celtic salts are from the ancient traditional salt marshes of Algarve, Portugal, and are hand-harvested using traditional celtic organic sea salt harvesting methods. All of our sea salts are mineral-rich, unrefined, unbleached and chemical-free as nature intended. |

Celtic history: about the Celtic Sea, the Celtic people and the history of sea salt harvesting: There were 7 Celtic Sea nations, or places where the ancient Celtic peoples lived on the shores of the ancient Celtic Sea. Celtic culture and traditions still survive to this day. The Celtic people developed sea salt flats and the ancient practice of harvesting sea salt with simple wooden sea salt harvester's hand tools. This practice is carried on to this day by descendants of those ancient celtic "paludiers" ( sea salt farmers ) who still produce celtic artisan sea salt and fleur de sel sea salt by hand in the traditional celtic ways. The Celtici: The Celtici were an ancient Celtic tribe, who in the 4th century BC migrated to and populated the Algarve in Portugal. Their presence was the result of a third or fourth wave of migrations of Celtic peoples into Iberia. Their migration to the Algarve region occurred in the 4th century BC., in pre-Roman times. |
