Can sea salt really be called Organic? There is some controversy about calling sea salt Organic. It cannot be "certified organically grown" as that term is reserved for products from living organisms (ie plants). Le Paludier sea salts are certified by "Nature et Progres". Marisol Sea Salts are certified by "Certiplanet". Both of these are European marks of exceptional quality and purity. These salts are certified to be 100% *natural (*no additives), hand-harvested by ancient organic methods, processed by organic methods, unrefined, and free of pesticides, herbicides, and chemical residues. This is the highest and most stringent level of certification available for sea salt. Le Paludier sea salt is hand-harvested by traditional organic methods using only traditional hand tools in Guérande, Brittany, France. Marisol sea salt is hand-harvested by traditional organic methods using only traditional hand tools in 2 nature reserves in the Algarve region of Portugal. Le Paludier sea salts are known worlwide for exceptional quality and fine taste. Marisol's quality is of the same very high standard. Le Paludier grey sea salt is of a light grey colour because of the fine clay from the sea salt flats and cooler, wetter, climate. Marisol's sea salts are whiter due to very careful harvesting and the hotter climate in Portugal, which results in much whiter salt crystals. Le Paludier Sea Salt is available in three forms: coarse grey sea salt, fine stoneground grey sea salt, and Fleur de Sel gourmet sea salt. Marisol Sea Salt is available as: traditional medium or fine sea salt, Flor de Sal gourmet sea salt and Flos Salis, an ultra-fine delicate first harvest gourmet salt. Le Paludier Sea Salt and Marisol Sea Salt can be used in foods or other products labeled as " organic ". |

Fleur De Sel and Flor De Sal and Flos Salis are very special sea salts. Delicate and exquisite fine moist granules of whitish sea salt are traditionally organically hand-harvested (mostly by women) by gently skimming the surface of the sea water of the salt marshes. All of our sea salts are from Guérande, Brittany, France and Algarve, Portugal and are organically hand-harvested using traditional organic sea salt harvesting methods. All are mineral-rich, unrefined, unbleached and chemical-free as nature intended. All of our salts can be used in foods or other products labeled as " organic ". |
